  Sumatran Tiger

  • It is estimated there are about 400 wild Sumatran tigers in the protected 5 national parks, with about 230 in captivity.

  • The Sumatran tiger is found only on the Indonesian island of Sumatra in habitat that ranges from lowland forest to mountain forest.

  • The Sumatran tiger differs from the Siberian tiger in that the Sumatran tiger has stripes on its forelegs. It also has the darkest coat of all the tiger subspecies.

  • The Sumatran tiger is the smallest of the tiger subspecies. Males average 2.4 meters in length from head to tail and weigh about 120 kg. Females measure approximately 2.2 meters in length and weigh about 90 kg.

  • The range size of this tiger is not well-known, however there are approximately 4 adult tigers in 100 km˛.
